Safeguarding Producers’ Intellectual Property
October 9, 2025
Safeguarding producers’ intellectual property is essential to building a future where producers and the entire entertainment ecosystem can thrive.
We are working with experts and organizations from within and outside the entertainment industry as we continue to assess the deployment of new AI tools, (including OpenAI’s Sora 2) for threats to artistic integrity and copyright. In the immediate, we strongly recommend that our members “opt out” and fully understand the terms and conditions and data control settings on any platforms you are considering, and always exercise caution when sharing or creating materials within an AI platform.
You can report alleged infringements of copyright via OpenAI’s dispute form or by emailing legal@openai.com. OpenAI provides instructions on how to “opt-out” of model training on Sora and also how to launch Sora responsibly. OpenAI also has guides related to data controls on ChatGPT and Codex usage.
The Fine Print of AI: How Producers Can Protect Themselves and their Productions
During this summer’s Produced By Conference, former PGA President Lori McCreary and Latham & Watkins Partner Ghaith Mahmood discussed some of the key AI issues producers may face. We encourage you to download Lori’s list of the top 10 questions producers should ask when using AI.
