Producers Guild Calls for Industry Transition to Clean Energy

Proposing a New Member Group

From time to time, members may wish to propose the formation of a new member group (i.e., stand-alone committee or working sub-group of a committee or task force). All member groups are designed to foster networking and build community; they provide opportunities for professional development and support ongoing education.

The creation of a new member group must align with the organization's broader strategic goals and avoid redundancy with existing groups. New groups must have a clearly defined potential population within the existing membership that would be served through the group's formation.

Member groups are not involved in the development of Guild policies or other decision-making on behalf of the Guild. Policies and strategic goals are set by the Board of Directors. On occasion and as needed, Guild leadership may establish discrete task forces to work with it in an advisory capacity on specific initiatives (thus, these guidelines are not applicable to Guild task forces).

Proposal Requirements:

Members seeking to propose a new Committee or Working Group must submit a brief written proposal that includes the following:

  1. Purpose and Scope of the Group:
What clearly defined population within the Guild would be served? What type of professional development, networking or educational opportunities could a new group seek to build community around?
  2. Differentiation from Existing Groups:
Could the potential scope or activities of the proposed group fall within the scope of an existing group? In what ways would the creation of a new group uniquely advance member engagement without duplicating activities and the community built up within existing groups?
  3. Alignment with the Guild's Mission:
A brief description of how the proposed group supports the organization's mission, values, and strategic priorities.
  4. Specifically if Proposing a Working Group:
Working Groups are formed to address specific interests and/or activities that are consistent with the strategic goals of the particular Region, Committee, or Task Force. In what way will the proposed group align within the broader goals of the Region, Committee or Task Force within which it will reside?

Submission and Review Process:

  • Proposals will be reviewed by Guild leadership bi-annually.
  • Proposals are only accepted by the Guild between June 1 — June 30, just prior to the start of the new fiscal year, or between January 1 - January 31. To submit, email: pgaadmin@producersguild.org
  • If needed, PGA staff may reach out to a submitter with additional questions or requests for information. Any request for additional information about a potential new member group will be made within two weeks of receipt of a proposal.
  • Determinations about the approval of a new member group will be made by July 31.
  • Note: Submitting a proposal for a new member group does not guarantee an invitation to serve as a chair or lead of that group. Leadership appointments for new Committees or Working Groups are made by the Guild Presidents, and all appointments for future leadership terms are subject to their approval. The Guild may limit the number of active groups based on staff resources to support the creation of new member groups. In general, the Guild only moves forward with the creation of a new group if there is a clear and demonstrable subset of the membership whose needs for community, professional development and networking and education are not being met in a meaningful way.
